NAHS Percussion Technique Class taught by TJ Kelly

November 29, 2011

If you are interested in TJ’ Kelly’s percussion class you may print this form to fill out  and turn in to the band director Justin Smalley.

When are classes?

Classes are held 2 nights a week, from January to June. Exactly which nights this year’s class will meet has not yet been determined. Please help us choose the best nights for our classes. Please complete and return the second page of this document.

What is taught?

We spend several months teaching basic marching percussion technique, since marching percussion is different from concert and jazz. We aim to teach students of all grade levels how to play marching drum and keyboard instruments and to read complex, marching percussion music.

Who should attend?

All 8th grade and high school students who want to be in the NAHS band’s percussion section during the 2012 season. All students are welcome, regardless of what instrument they may currently play. If any student wants to drum, we’ll teach them.

Participation fee

In years past, this class has carried a participation fee to pay for staff and logistics. This year’s fee has not yet been determined. Last year, the fee was $75 for 8th graders and $125 for high school students. Fees are generally collected in February.

Contact information
The class is taught by TJ Kelly and several additional percussion-specialist staff members, contracted by the Town of North Andover. TJ can be reached at tjkelly00@gmail.com with any questions or comments.

Saturday’s Billerica show Sunday’s NESBA Championships rescheduled Nov 6th

October 28, 2011

UPDATE: Saturday’s Billerica show has been cancelled. Sunday’s NESBA Championships in Lawrence has been Re Scheduled to Nov 6th! There will also be no rehearsals this weekend.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature has taken over this weekend and all shows have been called off. The New England Band Championships will now be held next Sunday November 6th. Times and updated show information will be posted Monday of next week. Safety and the students ability to have the best chance to succeed are our priorities with this decision. Stay tuned for more information.
