North Andover hosts NESBA for the first time. Volunteers Needed

August 24, 2010

North Andover Hosts NESBA on Saturday Oct 16th !

For the first time North Andover High is hosting The New England Scholastic Band Association Marching Band Competition (NESBA)

Where: North Andover High School

When: Saturday October 16, 2010 6pm

Why are we so excited? This is a huge opportunity for North Andover to showcase the amazing musical talent ofour North Andover students, and an extraordinary opportunity to develop a long standing funding source for our music department.  Have you been to a band show?  This is the most fun a band can stand – and we just gotta share!

AND WE NEED YOU! In order to host a successful competition (and to be invited to host again) we need to begin organizing now, and we need many volunteers.  Just fill out the NESBA volunteer form below to get started.  This is going be great folks, and we are planning on being the “poster” school on how to run an amazing show.

We currently have a core group of leaders and lots of opportunities for you to get in the game.

If you would like to volunteer please contact

Chris Allen Volunteer Coordinator –  nandoverchris@hotmail.com

Band Camp runs from 9:00-9:00 this week.  Students should arrive around 8:45.  It promises to be HOT today – hats, sunscreen, and plenty of water is essential.  Be sure you eat a breakfast and drink plenty of water in the morning – those who don’t will be the ones who feel faint!

Yesteday was a GREAT first day! (some photos here) Most students turned in their paperwork – if you didn’t, it needs to come in today, especially the emergency health form.  We must know who to contact in case of a problem.

Meal times

Lunch break will be from 1:00-2:00, students should bring food to eat ON CAMPUS. Dinner break 5:00-6:30, students MAY leave campus if they want (go home for dinner and come back ready for evening drill), except for Friday – annual BBQ.  Saturday schedule is 10:00-4:00 with a lunch break only.

Friday is the annual BBQ for students and the evening meal will be provided by NAMA. Donations are needed and should be brought to the cafeteria in the morning:

Freshman – desserts

North Andover High Chorus Headed to Carnegie Hall

July 7, 2010

The NAHS chorus has been invited to sing at Carnegie Hall as part of the 2011 National Youth Choir on April 3, 2011. This invitation was extended to NAHS chorus because of their high scoring performance at the April 2010 music competition in Philadelphia; any group who scored a gold medal rating was invited to perform at Carnegie.  There will be a public performance, families and community members can make arrangements to attend.

The senior chorus members of 2010 are invited to join in on this trip. They are invited to come back to NAHS during winter break and practice the assigned music and then can join the group at Carnegie.

The trip will run Friday – Monday. Students will sing in an East Coast Honors Chorus, will participate in workshops, and will work with world-famous conductors. Preliminary plans are that the trip will include a Broadway show, tour of Ellis Island, tour of the city, and students will stay in hotel in Midtown, NY. More details will be posted here as they become available. Congrats to all!!!
